ALOE IS MELANCHOLY
ALOE IS GRIEF
WHEN ALL THE OTHER FLOWERS DANCE ALOE LIKES TO SLEEP

Aloe is a love letter to grief in the humblest of languages, the language of flowers.

Aloe tries to accept the scars of battle for what they are; meant as a reminder that everything ends.

It tries to remain honest as it sifts through the five stages of grief as described by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross; denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

Aloe, which stands for the longing born of loss, is meant to be a reminder that grief, like real life, isn’t organised… and like real life, it’s not going anywhere.

Having said that, befriending my ghosts has helped me deal with several demons, and if time is the greatest healer, music is the greatest balm.

Expression is key. It is important to talk about the toxic patterns which keep us from understanding our full potential. So I’m talking about it.

The denial that kept me trapped in toxic, abusive relationships.

The anger at the world for not treating everyone respectfully.

The endless bargaining with time in the hopes of reliving my glory days.

The chronic despair that comes with this insidious mental health disorder.

And the hard won acceptance that life goes on, until it doesn’t.

At a full running time of 33 minutes, the album comprises five tracks, one bonus track and one reprisal.

It’s an introspective look at one’s own adventures in depression.

What started out as a means to stop feeling suffocated at the hands of loss became a battle of wits with the shadow lurking in the corners of my consciousness.
